Harnessing phenomena such as superposition and entanglement for computation, sensing and imaging raises several challenges. Add in the need to engineer these phenomena into devices that can be controlled with classical electronics at room temperature, operate in noisy, real-world environments and scaled up to thousands of identical components, and you’ve considerably raised the stakes. We’ll discuss the opportunities, challenges, and best practice in creating a pipeline of talented, well-trained scientists and engineers who can meet those challenges. Panelists will provide a short summary followed by a moderated discussion on why we have a quantum skills gap and what we can do about it.
